HERE ARE SOME FACTS TO CONSIDER:

A 2002 survey conducted by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®  with 5,700 responses from households that bought or sold a home in 2001 revealed that:

  • 79% of sellers used a REALTOR® , 13% went "by owner", and 8% used other means
  • Of those sellers who sold by owner, 35% said they would use a REALTOR® the next time, 22% said they would sell "by owner" again, and 43% were unsure
  • Sellers that sold by owner experienced a 27% difference in the final selling price vs. selling with a REALTOR® (i.e. REALTORS® generated $175,000 and by owners generated $137,400)
